A CHALLENGING YEAR
This vintage was complex and intense from start to finish, but thanks to our past experience and meticulous, persevering work, we were able to harvest very fine grapes. After several years of reflection on our working methods, this 2024 vintage is the first certified organic vintage for the estate.
In the vineyards
The year 2024 was particularly wet and rainy. Faced with these conditions, the fight against diseases (downy mildew, powdery mildew and rot) was a real challenge. However, thanks to the experience gained over several complex vintages, rigorous vineyard work, a dynamic and dedicated team, the harvest turned out to be of great quality. The vines were carefully maintained before each tractor pass, and early deleafing was carried out to improve grape aeration. Soil work was deliberately limited to prevent humidity, and for the first time, several plots remained grassed throughout the entire season. In addition, more red wine parcels were tressed to gain ripeness in this cool vintage.
For example, the entire Pommard Rugiens parcels were tressed for the first time.
From harvest to wine
Harvest began on September 11th in Volnay, followed by Pommard. Despite very low yields, both sanitary quality and ripeness levels were excellent. As in the 2022 and 2023 vintages, all parcels were harvested into small cases to preserve the freshness of the grapes (allowing optimal cooling before cellar work) and to maintain the quality of the bunches.
Red Wines
Aromatic extraction was carried out with delicacy to preserve the fruit expression that Pinot Noir is known for. Satisfied with our tests in 2023, the entire 2024 vintage was pressed using our vertical press (as our ancestors did). Aging between 12 and 16 months, brought structure and depth to the wines while maintaining their bright fruit character.
White Wines
The harvest of the white wines followed, ripeness taking longer to reach. Nevertheless, the grapes were of excellent quality. The juices were therefore barreled with greater lees to add structure (which is why we stirred the lees until the end of the year). These techniques allowed us to achieve beautiful balances between tension, freshness from the vintage, and richness provided by the lees.
A vintage to discover
The estate successfully met the challenges of this year and extracted the very best from the grapes. You will soon be able to discover and taste the 2024 vintage, now certified organic. Small in quantity but great in quality, this vintage was crafted with passion and exacting standards thanks to a motivated and dedicated team throughout the year.
